Guest posting guidelines

Topics

  • My audience is primarily stay-at-home moms and homemakers. They are interested in saving money, but even more interested in innovative, flexible ways to make a little extra money. They are also very interested in meal planning, new (tested) recipes, and inexpensive projects they can do with their kids.
  • Because of their (understandable!) difficulty in finding large blocks of time, my audience tends to prefer ideas that are easy to jump in and out of. That doesn’t necessarily mean the blog post needs to be short, just that the action a reader might take as a result should be manageable even in a fairly hectic household.
  • Concrete ideas and suggestions are always preferred to abstract discussions. Ideally, the post should inspire action.
  • My blog readers have very little interest in traditional “personal finance” topics like the stock market, mutual funds, savings accounts, etc. They are enthusiastic about all things online.
  • Celebrity gossip isn’t a good fit, but my readers do like learning more about women like them.

Formatting and content

  • Please make your post visually inviting by keeping paragraphs short, using subheadings and lists (when appropriate), and including a photo (make sure you have rights to it or it’s Creative Commons-licensed for commercial use).
  • Your user bio is the place to link back to your site (in a nice, natural-English-sounding way). Please don’t put SEO-inspired links into the post content. Use your good judgement on this or risk my eternal ire. :)
  • It should go without saying, but please make sure the post is of high-quality, useful, and grammatically correct.
  • I’ll handle adding tags, but if you have some in mind, feel free to add them to the draft.

Nuts and bolts

  • You’ll be responsible for creating your post within WordPress. (If the post was composed in a word processor, please use the Paste from Word button.)
  • When your post is ready, you’ll submit it for review. I’ll review it, and either publish or request any necessary changes.
  • If you’d like your post to be published at a specific time, feel free to schedule it—but make sure you allow at least a couple of business days for review.
  • When the post is published on the site, the content of your profile’s “Biographical Info” box will be featured in the “Written by” box. Write it in the third person, in natural English. Include a maximum of two links. You’ll need to use HTML to do that (if you need guidance on how to do this, let me know and I’ll write something up).
